M. Birot spent his entire career at the CNRS (Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique), Paris.
He was honored with a tribute volume in 1985 (Miscellanea Babylonica, Durand and Kupper eds, Paris) and by another volume in his memory in 1994 (Florilegium Marianum II).
